Sempervivum Aglow, commonly known as hens and chicks or houseleeks, is a hardy succulent plant that is relatively easy to care for. Here are some guidelines to help you take care of your Sempervivum Aglow:

  1. Light:
    • Sempervivums prefer full sunlight. Place your plant in a location where it can receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day.
    • If you are growing Sempervivum Aglow indoors, place it near a south-facing window to ensure it gets sufficient light.
  2. Soil:
    • Use a well-draining soil mix for succulents. A cactus mix or a mixture of potting soil and perlite can work well.
    • Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.
  3. Watering:
    • Sempervivums are drought-tolerant and prefer to dry out between waterings.
    • Water the plant thoroughly but allow the soil to dry out before the next watering.
    • In general, water sparingly during the growing season (spring and summer) and reduce watering in the dormant period (fall and winter).
  4. Temperature:
    • Sempervivum Aglow is cold-hardy and can tolerate freezing temperatures. They actually benefit from a period of winter chill to promote vibrant color.
    • However, if you’re growing them in containers, it’s a good idea to provide some protection during extreme cold spells.
  5. Fertilizing:
    • Sempervivums don’t require a lot of fertilization. You can apply a diluted, balanced, liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) every 4-6 weeks.
    • Avoid over-fertilizing, as succulents generally prefer lean soils.
  6. Propagation:
    • Sempervivums often produce offsets (baby plants) around the base of the mother plant. You can separate these offsets and replant them to propagate new plants.
    • Propagation is typically done in spring or early summer.
  7. Pests and Diseases:
    • Sempervivums are generally resistant to pests and diseases.
    • However, be on the lookout for signs of pests such as aphids or mealybugs. If you notice any issues, treat them promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
  8. Container Gardening:
    • If you’re growing Sempervivum Aglow in containers, choose a pot with good drainage and use a succulent or cactus mix.
    • Check the roots periodically and repot if the plant becomes root-bound.

Remember that succulents, including Sempervivums, are adapted to survive in arid conditions, so it’s crucial not to overwater them. Monitoring the soil moisture and adjusting your care routine based on the specific needs of your plant will contribute to its overall health and vitality.
